The Culture and Men
I want to introduce you to Aaron Renn.
Coming from a Christian point of view, Aaron Renn provides commentary on current cultural trends. One of his most referenced and discussed commentaries comes from his article in First Things, where he laid out The Three Worlds of Evangelism.
Renn concludes that Christians now live in the “Negative World.” He has recently written a book on what Christians should be aware of and how to navigate the “Negative World.” Renn is interviewed and discusses the book here.
Renn also provides an interesting blog post with four themes the church should consider as they navigate changes in the culture.
Finally, Renn frequently offers commentary and insight about the current state of manhood. He writes,
“40% of men report symptoms of depression. The younger cohorts seem more challenged than older ones, with ages 18-23 registering as the least optimistic. Almost two-thirds report that ‘no one really knows me well.’ Many men have also retreated into a virtual world, saying that their online life is more meaningful than their actual, real-world life. And, of course, many are struggling romantically: regular pornography consumption is high at around 60% for all age levels.” Read Renn’s entire article here.
One of the most important things we can do to combat culture as well as our own personal issues is to continue to meet together and form meaningful friendships! I look forward to our next Iron Leadership meeting.
